Pinole
A historic Old Town core on a Mexican land grant, settled along the Southern Pacific Railroad.
History & Character
Named for a Nahuatl word for ground seed flour, settled from an 1823 Mexican land grant and incorporated in 1903. Growth followed the Southern Pacific Railroad and later I-80; today it’s a residential commuter town with a historic Old Town core.

Status checked September 30, 2026: Closed through January 1, 2027. The book drops are also closed.
Returns are accepted at other Contra Costa County Library branches, and holds have been transferred to El Sobrante Library at 4191 Appian Way. Do not plan a visit using Pinole’s normal weekly hours while this closure is in effect.
